We’re learning and improving all the time — from how we save energy and water to how we sort waste and choose local, organic food. Everyone’s part of this journey, and every small action counts!
We’re also part of the international Green Key programme, which gives us practical tools to make real, lasting changes for the planet.

Greenkey & STF
Certification includes both hotels with public areas, Restaurants Ahku, Kekäle and Water World. Especially the measures for reducing water consumption has been challenging and the work has needed lots of different technical steps. Both our hotels have 264 rooms, restaurants and Water World. To achieve a approved level of water consumption we have checked the water flow of all taps and showers – that has taken some hours! But now we are happy to present the results.
There are over 60 obligatory criterions to be full filled for to achieve international Green Key Certificate. The certificate is granted by a Green Key jury after application process and audit report. The Green Key award is valid 12 months and must be renewed every year.

You can find detailed instructions in the main Ahku kitchen. If you’re unsure, please ask your superior for help.
And this is what we sort: Biowaste (note napkins belong here), glass (but broken glass goes to mixed waste), metal, paper, cardboard and batteries.

The demand for vegetarian and vegan dishes is growing every year, and we’re expanding our selection accordingly — especially at the Ahku Buffet, where the variety keeps getting bigger.
